RE: Travel Trailer Inspection

Tx inspections for a TT are a joke and cash cow for the government. All they check are to see if the lights are all lit up, the brake lights and turn signals work and that you have all the wheels on the ground, and nothing is dragging. $14.50 (this year). They don't even check the breakaway which is required on those over 3500 lbs. These are things that most of us (not all) do every time we hit the road. I brought my used trailer in from another state and had to have the inspection in order to get the plates. Oh well, I am sure that the inspection tax will go up now that the government is going broke. Good luck, safe travels and happy camping!

RE: Slide moving slowly??

Also make sure that your battery connections are clean and tight. Any connection that has a high resistance will provide low voltage to the motor and make it run slow. Since the motor is a high current draw device good connections are especially important. Good luck, safe travels and happy camping!

RE: utah camp grounds centraly located

Second B-Rad502. Stayed there in 07 and used it as a base for Grand Canyon North Rim, Zion and Bryce. Arrived with a bad rear engine seal and the operators were real helpful getting me organized to get it repaired. Our cell phones didn't work there. Good luck, safe travels and happy camping!

RE: BioDiesel

Go to www.biodieselcommunity.org for a good online explanation. Also has plans for a "still". Cost is about $500. Good luck, safe towing and happy camping!

RE: Water Heater Issue.

Dirt dauber nest in the exhaust tube can also cause a "pop" type sound. Easy to see if you open the door and stand back to one side and have someone start the heater. The unit will belch a flame back out of the exhaust tube. I like to never found the nest. It was in the curve where it couldn't be seen. Since it was baked real well, it knocked out real easy. Good luck, safe travels and happy camping!

RE: Atwood Water heater problem

Replace the ignitor/sensor assembly. (about $30-$35) It can and does develop minute cracks in the ceramic that holds the rods, This has a tendency to disturb the sensor function which operates on a very minute 400 microamp current. Also clean the connections to the black box electronic unit. Cheap and easy fix. Good luck, safe towing and happy camping!

RE: Tire Replacement Dilemma

Mehinks that the right front was carrying a lot of weight with the right rear so low. Probably was damaged on the tow home. If one tire goes on a tandem, it's pretty safe to change the other as soon as possible as it is doing more than it's share of work and is likely to fail on the future. Just a thought. Good luck, safe travels and happy camping!

RE: Power problems

Have an a/c tech check the unit. Could be over charged or could be short cycling. Could be under sized? Sounds like it is trying to start under load before pressure has bled down. Good luck, safe travels and happy camping!

RE: Tire air pressure

Why not get a tire pressure monitor system and use it to check the pressures? I finally broke down and got one and it sure makes life easier. You jump in the truck and push the proper button to read each tire and get the pressure then and there. Also works while driving if you have doubts. Well worth it in my book. Good luck, safe travels and happy camping!

RE: Generator Gas/Ethanol Problems

If using ethanol gas be sure to use the fuel supplements like Sea Foam or Stabil. Repair/Overhaul manuals for the EU2000i generators can be had from any Honda dealer. They never have it in stock but can be ordered. Takes about 2 weeks and cost me $35.59. Part number is 61Z0700. Good luck, safe travels and happy camping!

RE: Route north from Cody

We are in Great Falls now and leaving for Yellowstone tomorrow morning. Came into Great Falls up hwy 87 from Billings dragging a 30 ft. TT. No problems. Good road but desolate and no cell phone coverage. Did this on advice of son-in-law who travels the state for his job. We will go to Yellowstone down hwy 3 to Billings for a changeup. It is also OK. From Billings we will go I90, 310, 72, 120 to Cody. Good luck, safe travels and happy camping!

RE: Where to Purchase Diesel

Not on Internet but there is a book that is called "The RVers Friend" and another called "The Truckers Friend" which list 6500 locations throughout the USA. It lists truck stops as well as the mom and pops and convenience stores that sell diesel. It also has info on number of parking spots, eating, shopping, hours, showers, repairs, dump facilities etc.. Real handy. I found it on www.truckstops.com.

RE: scan guage, trans temp

Don't remember for sure but seems to me that, on another forum that had a transmission engineer, he stated that 60-90 degrees above ambient. The temp could vary according to the amount of work being done. In my case I have an additional cooler and am now running about 140-150 degrees, without towing, with ambient being in the 80's. When towing in the mountains of Utah last year, with ambient 90's, I saw 190's and one time on long steep grade I went to 205 very briefly. All of that is while moving. Start and stop traffic can make it go slightly higher. Hope this gives you some sort of info that is helpful. Good luck, safe travels and happy camping!

RE: Have you ever had a blowout that damaged your camper.....

No blowout but have a tire pressure monitor after reading all the stories on here. Look into PressurePro. Painless to install and maintain. Propridehitch.com has them. Real good service too. Ask for Sean. Good luck, safe travels and happy camping!

RE: Dometic Refrigerator Problem

There used to be a solid (no holes) "V" shaped cover in the rv catalogs. It appears it was discontinued last year or the year before. All it was was a piece of aluminum bent in a V that was the same diminsion as the opening in the outside cover. Don't know how it attached but couldn't have been too complicated. I tried to order one but they were no longer available. Bet you could fab one up very easily. Good luck, safe travels and happy camping!

RE: Hail damage repairs DFW area

Ask around and see what the local rvers recommend. Most rv stores of any size will do or can refer you to someone who does this. We luckily have an excellent shop here called Russell Rv that replaced my complete front end last year after getting hailed in Amarillo. You might also look at rvservicereviews.com. Good luck, safe travels and happy camping!

RE: Vent cover for oven

Mine had a plastic cover outside and has 2 knobs to secure it. (Plastic ones are prone to breaking) Staggerlee on www.myrv.com makes a really nice aluminum replacement that will not break if you forget to secure it. Good luck, safe travels and happy camping!

RE: I am looking for an electricians advice. RE Generator.

According to both Kipor and Honda specs 1600 watts for continuous duty is 13.3 amps. The peak rating of 2000 watts is 16.6 amps for intermittent use. Didn't see any time rating for the Kipor like the Honda has. Maybe it's in the owners manual. Anyhow, congrats on the generator. Hope you get lots of good use out of it. Good luck, safe travels and happy camping!

RE: Sam's club 6 volt Golf batteries

Bought 2 of the 6 volt GC-2 batteries 2 months ago. They were labeled Interstate but they were manufactured by US Battery. US Battery number is US-2000 but the Sams/Interstate version came in a white plastic case with a gray top. The ratings were 105 res cap, 210 ah. I am guessing that these colors are because Interstate or Us Battery wants to distinguish them from their regular line which have a very slightly different rating. Either way mine look good and work good and I am very happy with them especially compared to the price of some others. Good luck, safe towing and happy camping!
